April 2014
Only 5 years behind on my blog! I can't believe I can still remember everything. Anyway, I left Santa Monica early on a shuttle that dropped me into downtown San Francisco. On a recommendation, I stayed at the Adelaide Hostel off Taylor Street. A wonderfully quirky hostel - very cosy and central to everything. I settled in to my pod-style dorm, and headed out for a wander. Later than night, I jumped onto a pub crawl and had an interesting night out in San Francisco. Waking up a little dusty the next morning, I caught up with Dan to explore the waterfront and to grab some breakfast (and a famous Irish Coffee!) and visit the famous Pier 39!
Afterwards, Dan had to head off to work, and being relatively close to the Golden Gate Bridge, and a very clear day, I took the bus to the bridge. Seeing the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time was a huge personal accomplishment. I couldn't believe my travels had taken me here to this incredible landmark and I was stunned. Absolutely stunned. I apologize for those reading for the obscene number of photographs to follow!
After a long day adventuring, I decided to return back to the hostel to chill and have a bit of a nap. Later that evening, I jumped onto a pub crawl through the Tenderloin, and had a fun little night out. The next morning, I slept in a little and caught up with my mate Dan again to do a Wild SF walking tour through The Castro and The Mission. If you're reading this long blog post still, then I HIGHLY recommend this tour, it's "wild". Anyway, some incredible history on this tour and some great food as well!
The last adventure I had on my visit to San Francisco trip was to visit Alcatraz. Being almost booked out, I managed to snag a ticket and headed out on the boat to see this famous landmark, and what a surprise it was. This history of this icon is unbelievable and I urge everyone to visit it if you can.
Well, after an amazing trip to San Francisco, to see Dan and to see all the sights of this incredible city, it was time to get moving. The next step of my journey was to visit Portland and Seattle, however, I decided to postpone that adventure for another time (one I would do in 2015 and 2018) and decided it was time to return to Canada and settle for a bit in Victoria.
